Ch-Ch-Changes

Well, I've done it. I'm moving. Here is the new link. The Weekend Gardener Hope I like it but think I will. I'm a little melancholy about living Blogger but it's time to move on. I will get it fixed up to where I like it and I think it will be better. Hopefully anyway.

See ya on the flip flop.

Lost and Then Found

Well, shoot. This blog stuff is messing with me. Thank goodness I know enough about HTML and CSS to be completely dangerous to myself and my followers. They changed some stuff on here but it might be because I have changed computers. Not to crazy about Windows 8 but oh well. Going to have to have someone show me some stuff on here. It doesn't play right. I had Vista way back when and wasn't crazy about it but this is worse I think. Oh well, this too will pass and I will probably have to have another computer in a couple of years anyway. I go through them like Bic Razors. LOL.

Anyway, I told everyone last night that I was doing some soul searching and trying to figure out what my fit is in this life. Well, I have been following this blog from this gentleman and really, really enjoy his blogs. They are so uplifting and today's blog hit home base. "What is your fit??? Michael Patz is his name and if you really want to get some good readings, like his blog. They come in my emails. I guess mine do too if you follow them. I don't know.

Anyway, what he says is so right. Jump into community, that is where your gifts will rise to the surface. Talk to ones you can trust, your elders and your leaders in your lives and have them pray with you and for you. I have done that before on something that was placed on my heart and it has grown by leaps and bounds. It is a very successful endeavor and all we had to do was have faith and get it started. I have things I want to start and I just need to take the leap of faith.

I hope this helps you with finding your answers, if you are looking for answers. I believe it has me and I will keep believing that.

Good night everyone. Be classy and I love you all, even if you don't love me!!!

That Wasn't Me

Well, this is my last day home for this week and my last long weekend until probably around May. We get two holidays in May, Truman's birthday on the 8th and then Memorial Weekend. I know, Truman's birthday is one of those bogus birthdays but hey....what can I say? Don't be a hater!

Storms are to be coming in and sounds like we are going to be having ice and snow along with sleet. Yuck, yuck, yuck. Hope it is short lived, am not wanting any of that stuff in my life at all! Josh has been working out of town since Thursday and is coming home today. I am wanting to stick around before I go back down to Springfield to see him but don't want to travel after dark. Hopefully he will be home early afternoon and all will be okay.

As I was driving down to Springfield today, I didn't turn the radio on until I was almost down here. Did a bunch of soul searching. All I can do is take it to my higher power, and He will allow it to happen if that is the direction I need to take. I let things bother me to much sometimes and things people say cut into me. I should be the better person and let it just roll off but with the verbal abuse, mental abuse and physical abuse of my past lives, it is hard. I am no different than anyone else though that has been through worse than I, so I need to buck up and not let the words hurt. I grew up though, with the guilt trips that a mother can instill on her child to make them obey and those have continued to stay with me. The shame of the dreaded guilt trips.

Don't get me wrong though. My mom was a good mom, I should have been disciplined more than I actually was. Seriously, I got away with murder. In my entire childhood I only got two spankings and they probably weren't really spankings. One, I don't even remember what I did but I ran away from her and climbed a tree. Well, I had to come down out of that tree and the spanking pursued. The other time I was tormenting my little niece Renada. She was 9 years younger than I and was a pain in my backside when we were growing up. She adored me and why not??? I was cool and she wanted to be like me. Well, I was doing something mean, I am sure, and my mom swatted me with the yard stick to make me stop. She probably should have used the belt but my mom wasn't a physical abuser. I am sure the guilt trip after Renada left was far worse than the swatting. LOL.

Speaking of Renada, I am so glad we did grow up together because we are close now. When I came back to Mo and started hanging around the family again there were a lot of things I noticed that Renada does that is the same as me. One of them is crazy but she likes mustard on her sandwiches. I always liked mustard, never mayo or salad dressing. Not even ketchup that well, still am like that. She loves the smell of patchouli, probably from all the incense I use to burn in my room. One time I was unpacking some stuff that mom had given me and I lived with the last pond scum I lived with. Anyway, I was unpacking my stuff and pulled out the incense burner. He goes, "You aren't going to let Josh see that, are you?" I'm like what? It's an incense burner. I think he thought it was a pipe to smoke dope out of or something. Idiot.

Well, if nothing else this has made me feel better after writing in it. I go to a retirement meeting tomorrow to hear what I need to do. I've had two other's scheduled but have missed them, I don't plan to miss this one. Sounds like we are going to get a pretty bad ice storm in town tomorrow night. Sounds like Harrisonville area may get some too but mainly snow. We'll see, it all may miss us all. I will talk to you guys tomorrow and take care. Love you all.

Bittersweet Surrender

Checking out some paint swatches and cabinet hardware for the kitchen. In the next week or two I want to repaint the kitchen and get it all looking good. Then went over to the "Trade Fair" which is a flea market in Harrisonville. Saw some pretty cool stuff but didn't buy anything. It was a pretty good afternoon.

A direct quote from Facebook from a preacher. "If you are an American and believe that abortion is right and that homosexuality is moral, you have that right. But if you do, please don't profess to be a Christian or claim to believe the Bible. Jesus clearly taught that any sexual activity except that which occurs between a heterosexual married couple is sin and unacceptable. The rest of the Bible in both the Old and the New Testaments echo and affirm that fact. Scripture is also clear that life and personhood begin at conception and that the destruction of that innocent life is likewise sin and unacceptable. Now again if you choose not to believe those truths you have that right. But please don't blaspheme The Lord Jesus Christ by claiming to be His follower, and don't insult the holiness of God's Word by quoting it' qualifying it, or questioning it. And please don't tell people you are a Christian or that you read or study, because you're just bad advertisement."

Just because we don't all think alike and I don't have the same beliefs as some doesn't mean I'm not a Christian and should be shamed into thinking that I blaspheme Jesus by "claiming" to be His follower and insulting God's Word by quoting it. Also, don't tell me not to proclaim to people that I am a Christian or that I read or study the Word. Don't tell me that I am bad advertisement---just because I don't see eye to eye with your beliefs. Just between you and me, I can touch people with God's Word that you would never even be accepted into their house and you do not know what my relationship is with God. God loves me unconditionally and puts me in instances that I can bring people into His house and closer to Him. I speak in larger magnitudes just by actions and without words. All men sin and no one sin is greater than any other except for the sin of denying God....let he who is without sin cast the first stone.....and what ever I choose to call myself is between me and my God.

I get so mad at the holier than thou's out there. So heavenly good that they are no earthly account!!! God loves everyone and he had Jesus come and teach us, Love one another as we would have them love us. And to love God and put only Him as our worship. Grrr. I need to move on and be reminded that I am the better person here.

I love everybody and remember...Only we can make the difference needed. I love this next post I posted earlier today...

Started Blah, Ended Great!

Many of you are unaware, but when I blog during the weekend I usually just pick up my computer and write whatever is on my mind at the time. Sometimes I do that and sometimes I just sit in my chair during a very quiet time and write my thoughts. Well, this morning we are watching my favorite show, "Sunday Morning". It comes on at 8am on CBS but they are doing a story on the Sandy Hook murders and they also did a story on Oscar Pistorius murder. It makes me sad and wonder, what has happened to our world? What has happened to empathy? Some blame guns, some blame drugs (lack of or to much) some blame mental health and then some blame the parents. I don't know who is to blame and I don't even know if we need to point blame on anyone or anything. I believe it has to do with mental health but is it?

Took a nap today and am feeling better, not that I felt bad but I was in a funk. Still am a little. I told Terry I didn't understand why and he said because the weekend is time to unwind. After saying that I thought a little on what that meant and he is right. I know the rest of you can relate also. Even if you don't do manual work, mental and physical work can be as grueling. I was always told before that I didn't work hard and there was no reason why I should be tired, that I was lazy. Well, it takes a lot of energy to put in your work hours. Especially if you deal with the public, deal with policies and procedures and deal with emotions from clients and even co-workers. Man, I'm tired just thinking about it.

You know modern technology is wonderful but Skype!!! That is the neatest thing. We talked to Jeremy, Barbel and Emma today. Let me tell you, that picture did not do her justice!!! Those cheeks are fuller and rounder not being on her back and that poor baby has no neck! She is absolutely adorable. Love her to death, cannot wait to see her this year again. She is going to be so beautiful because she already is.

Well, the day has ended pretty good. Terry and I went for a walk around the neighborhood and then when we got home took Lamar on a walk in the field behind the house. We need to get him a harness that fits him. He has outgrown the one we had for him because he is a porker! Plus because he was a puppy when we got it for him and he's not a puppy any more. His ole tongue was hanging out when we got home though. Did him some running which is good for him. Anyway, the walk did me good, help with my mood in the funk. Not there anymore. I really need to quit being lazy and do more outside.

Talked to a friend today that I hadn't talked to for a long time. Long time, I mean a month or so. It was so good talking to her and she's been sick, which I didn't realize. She is having a surprise birthday party for her mama, 90 years old. Is that not awesome. Terry and I will be going without a doubt. Ruby is a special, special lady. She told me if she was 30 years younger she'd give me a run for my money over Terry. LOL. She's awesome. One of my favorite Ruby stories was when she had breast cancer. I'm thinking she was in her late 70's maybe and she had the mastectomy. I went over to see her after she got out of the hospital and asked how she was doing? She said fine and then said, "You know what them Grandchildren of mine are calling me?" I told her pray tell, I'd have no idea. She said, "One booby Ruby!" Laughing as she was telling me that. Gotta love that Ruby, she is awesome.

I have two more days home. Tomorrow is like President's Day or something and since Monday is my day off normally, I have Tuesday off. I'm glad. Getting off of here and will talk to you guys tomorrow. Bye.

Sometimes I'm Amazed.

Well, well, well. Here I am once again, rested and not as tired as I was yesterday. Man, that day wore me out!!! I came home to a great surprise. As you guys know, Valentine's Day was Thursday and I was in Springfield so we didn't get to celebrate. I decided to surprise him though this year and bought a card, placing 4 Scratch off tickets inside and when I left Wednesday morning placed it on the bathroom sink for when he woke up. He told me Wednesday night that he was going to wait until I got home before he scratched them. Plus my present would be waiting for me when I got home. As I said, I got home late last night and we were unloading the car, placing my luggage in the bedroom. I was carrying in my hang up clothes and a bag and there on the bed was my present....

Anyone that knows me knows the weakness I have for stuffed animals. The inner child in me comes out. As long as I am alive I will always give a child a stuffed animal for a present. This guy is going to Springfield with me. Trying to figure out a fitting name for him, just haven't yet. I'll let you guys know the big decision when it comes. :o)

Oh, and Terry won $15 on the Scratch off tickets. He then bought another ticket this morning, not from the one's I gave him and won $20. This guy is one of the luckiest people I've ever known.

I had so many people cry to me yesterday. Heartfelt tears. A close friend that is dealing with a loss, a father that is dealing with a loss of a son into the world of drugs and homosexuality. It wasn't a dad that was mad at his son, it was a dad that feels he is losing the love of his son. Drugs are bad, no matter what or how you look at them. 19 year old on Ecstasy, Meth and who knows what else. I know this is a fact because I know the crowd his son is hanging with. Then another friend cried telling me some things that is heavy on their hearts. Not sure why I was chosen as the person to hear these stories but whatever the reason is, I hope it was well played by me. I pray to God that I have made a difference.

A close friend of mine and I were talking last night, she has been working in Public Health longer than I. She gets depressed and discouraged just like the rest of us and she said that whatever our purpose is in life, if we even make a difference in one life it is what we are here for. That wasn't the exact words she said but close or at least it was within the ballpark.

Well, guess what. This is it. Getting off, "Stay Classy" people.

Smile

Got home late tonight, am tired but got a lot accomplished today so all is good. Lots has happened tonight that sends me running in prayer though. Pray people like you've never prayed before. I have come across a lot of people the last two days that can definitely use your prayers, chants, meditation, whatever you do to your higher power. To much sadness has been brought to my attention. Wish I had the answer but I don't.

Will write more tomorrow. I'm tired. Good night all.

The Sweetest Thing

I found out today at work how important friends are. No matter how bad something feels or seems, friends are the ones that get mad because of the injustice that is served on you, they are the ones that have you laughing at yourself and the situation and they just understand. The last couple of days have been tough but tonight things seem a little better. I have a lot of good, good friends at work and also away from work. I realize how lucky I am.

Dance is one of the most powerful forms of magical ritual... It is an outer expression of the inner spirit.

I posted that picture along with that phrase tonight on Facebook and it brought back so many memories of my younger days of when I moved back to MO and made new friends. We use to pile up in one or two vehicles and go to all kinds of street dances in the summer and fall. It was so much fun, we'd travel distances to hear the bands and just dance the night away. In the winter when it was to cold for the dances we would all congregate at the bar in Urich, The Town Tavern, and play pool, listen to the jukebox and sometimes the owner Jr Anderson would have fish fries, mountain oyster fry or what ever. There would be a potluck, everyone would bring in a dish and the place would be packed. Of course there has never been a hamburger as good as Jr's and there never will be. Nothing but ground beef and some seasoning but they were delicious. I can still taste them. It was a good place ran by good people. There will never be another Town Tavern like that one.

When we weren't doing that on the weekends we would play Volleyball. Now for those of you that know me, I am not much of a sports player, let alone volleyball. It was a serious game and man, you could get hurt playing. My husband, Josh's dad, was very competitive and him, along with his best friend Bo....you'd better get out of the way because they were going to get that ball no matter what. It was fun though but really more fun to sit on the sidelines and watch.

Bringing up Bo reminds me of a funny story about him. One night there were about three of us out riding around and it was quite late. We decided to run by Bo and Elise's house and get Elise to come and have fun with us. Why we thought she'd want to come with us I'm not sure, especially since she had two little ones, Josh and Andrea. Anyway, we stop by like at 1:30 knocking on the door. All lights are out, no TV on....ya think they were probably in bed??? Well anyway here comes Bo to the door, now visualize this. The only thing he had on was a TUBE SOCK!!! Cracked us up. He goes in his ever famous Bo talk, "I had to put on something, mama wouldn't let me answer the door stark naked!!!" We had some good times.

Well, I'm getting off here. Enjoy life people and make the best of it. It makes for some fun memories.

Coulda Been Better, Coulda Been Worse

Today was definitely a day I want to write off. It wasn't totally terrible. I woke up in Harrisonville this morning around 5:30. I had to be in El Dorado Springs at 8:30am. Had packed the car the night before so all I had to do is get up, get dressed and leave. Placed Terry's Valentine's card in a place that he would be sure and see it. In the bathroom on the sink. Off I drove and everything was good. While I was in El Dorado my work phone rings and they were sitting me up for an interview for another position I am applying for. After this one I am going to lay low for a little while I think. We'll see what comes around the pike. Got to the office and that is when things got a little sticky but it will all be okay. Long story and don't feel like getting into it. Then I get a call from a facility in Joplin and I had to run down there this afternoon. I drove a little over 300 miles today so needless to say, I am tired and a little cranky. :o)

Apartment stinks. Forgot to dump the trash Friday and didn't get back to the apartment until today. I am trying to think what I made last week. I know I made homemade vegetable beef soup with cabbage and I also made beans with ham hocks too, I think. I know I put it all in the freezer and can just grab a freezer bag out when I want. But whatever I have in the trash it smells like a rotten cooked cabbage fest in here. Man, it stinks. I have one of those burners where you put the scented wax in and turn the light bulb on. I got it last year from Jenny (my daughter in law) for Christmas. I love it and use it all the time. Well, it's not cutting the cake with this smell. I am going to have to buy some Fabreeze (or however you spell it) tomorrow. Along with some laundry detergent. I meant to pick it up in Harrisonville this weekend but I forgot my debit card down here. Wasn't that just as convenient as all get out. LOL

Cutting it off short. I'm tired tonight. Maybe I will be rested up and will write more tomorrow. We'll see. Good night all.

Sleep, sleep, sleep

Well, what do you think of it? I get tired of the same background and the winter background just doesn't feel right. We really haven't even had a real winter or a real snow here this year. I mean, I'm glad we didn't get what the East Coast got but we sure could use the moisture. We truly aren't out of the drought. It's scary in this neck of the woods.

As I prepare for Valentine's Day, walking into the stores I think of the sadness this day has connected to it. In 20 years, I may have gotten two gifts at Valentines and didn't get Christmas or Birthday presents either. It use to hurt me but after a while the hurt just turned in anger and then into hardness. It was hard for me to get back into the romantic-ness of getting each other little tokens. I am learning and after three years you would think that it would be easier but it isn't. Hard to explain and I don't plan to tonight. Just gives me a lot of mixed emotions.

Spent the day with Patsey, driving around the area getting errands done. We had a really nice lunch together just visiting. We have been friends for so long that we don't have to explain anything. We both know our history, that is what is nice about friends you have had for a long time. No explaining why you say what you say!!! As always, we had fun.

Well, getting off of here. Will have more to write tomorrow maybe. This is a fun song and fun video. I hadn't heard it before or the artist, that I can remember. Enjoy and Be good.

Emma Grace

She's 5 months old today and she is one of the most beautiful little girls I have ever set my eyes or lips on. Well, maybe second most beautiful. Madison has 9 years of that place in my heart but Miss Emma Grace runs a close second. Terry and I ran to the store to pick me up a new computer and we were eating at Famous Dave's. A really good BBQ place, not my favorite but isn't a bad replacement for the favorite. Anyway, we were sitting there and Terry goes, "I got a text from Jeremy." I'm like what does it say and Terry has the best smile any Grandpa could ever have on his face (it just glowed) and turns the phone so I could see and there she was. That gorgeous little sweetie. I told Jeremy she is adorable and that we loved getting the pic!!! I told Terry we need to get back out there as fast as we can, she is nothing but skin and bones!!! We are lucky individuals, we have two beautiful little girls, two beautiful daughter in laws and the daddy's aren't bad either. I've said it before and will say it again....love my family! Remember, if they don't remember anything else, they will remember how you made them feel as they were growing up.

Excited about my new computer but I have Windows 8 now. The salesman was really good about showing me stuff but it is taking me a little time learning everything but am so happy to have my own computer. We will take my other one to get it fixed but it was going to cost us a new computer to get it fixed. Granted a new cheaper computer but still a new computer. I was going to get an IPad because I have an IPhone and all. Plus Jeremy and my Josh both have been telling me I need one. I will, I think by summer I will. Then I'll have three computers, is that not crazy. One for Springfield, one for Harrisonville and one for travel. LOL. I'm a mess.

I loved watching the Grammy's last night. Music is one of my favorite things in the entire world. It blew me away when I was out at Jeremy and Barbel's house last October. He thought he was introducing Terry and I to a group and I was like...THE BLACK KEYS!!! I love The Black Keys. I was really glad they won the Grammy last night. Can't remember if it was the best song or what but they rock. Was glad Stronger by Kelly Clarkson got something too. The best song was another one I love. Wasn't to crazy about Frank Ocean or whatever his name is. Love Adele and she is awesome along with Mumford and Sons. There are some good artists out there now. I love them all.

Getting off of here. Going to see if I can figure YouTube out on here. This whole Windows 8 concept is a different concept for me to figure out.

Promise, It Will All Be Okay.

August 2013, there is going to be a change in our lives. For me, it isn't really going to be that big of a deal but to some it will have a big impact. What that impact could be, I'm not sure but I am sure some are going to be upset because of this big decision. The post office will not be delivering mail on Saturdays. I can see where it will save money for this organization. Wages for the carriers, gas and mileage on the vehicles used to deliver the mail. They say that if you have a post office box you can still pick up your mail, it just won't be delivered to your home or business.

Everytime I think about the post office I think about the individuals that do stamp collecting. Why I have no idea but when I see the beautiful stamps that are available I think of these individuals. I only know one person personally that collects. I have never seen his collection but know he collects. We would talk about it sometimes and I would see him in the post office buying sheets of stamps he didn't have. John Kukovich, my preacher at the Christian Church in Garden City. I really like John as a person, pastor and friend. He made an important impact on my life as a person, as a Christian and as a community servant. He is a good, good man. Also love his daughter Cindy and wife Alma. I didn't know his boys that well but know they are good people too. Anyway, got off the subject there.

My friend dated a guy that had the neatest collection too. Now I saw his and looked at his books and it was so impressive. He had different types of stamp collections but I loved his Disney collection and that is the only one I remember, even though he had volumes and volumes of collections. I once embrodiered a piece that was the Love stamp. I did that while I was pregnant with Josh, for something to do in the evenings when I was sitting there by myself. I'm not sure if I still have it or not. If I do I have no idea where it is packed away at. Be kinda cool if I find it sometime and I might. That's another one of those "one of these days" story.

Tonight is the Grammy's and I can't wait. I am a nerd when it comes to award shows like that. There are a lot of fabulous up and coming artists out right now. I like the sound they are going for now. If I haven't said it or you haven't noticed but I love music. Music soothes the savage soul. I like all but Opera, that's another story, oh and hate music. That's not music that's hate.

If we can't be sure of anything else, we can be sure of change. It happens every day, every second, every moment of our lives. It's okay, if we didn't have change our lives would be boring. Enjoy.

Change

Age, date of birth, account numbers, expiration dates, 20% off, 60% off, address, last four digits of your social security number, phone numbers, gas prices, grocery prices, sale prices, drivers liscense numbers, mileage.....it goes on and on and on. Can you see where I am heading yet with this topic? Numbers. When did our lives become so involved with numbers? Maybe it always has been but in my earlier life I didn't notice, or care. Not that I really care now but for someone that is number remembering challenged, it can be overwhelming. I know my social by heart and of couse my date of birth but the rest is a challenge for me. I barely remember my own phone number let alone the two other phones that I have for work. I am a proud owner of three phones and to remember those, let alone a fax number too. Yeah, it's a challenge.

I do pretty good remembering birthdates of my immediate family and my two granddaughters, but get outside of that realm and I am toast. Talking about the three telephones I am the proud owner of, I also have two addresses to remember. I can remember this one in Harrisonville but my address in Springfield, yeah, no I can't remember that....let alone what apartment I live in.

Before my tenure at the State, I was a bookkeeper for a tax office and a propane company. Balancing out books and finding errors I enjoyed. Those numbers are fun, and also math, algebra and such. I don't mind that but memorizing numbers isn't real good for me. I still struggle a little with the multiplication table. 7's and 8's are the biggest challenge. LOL. I know, I'm a mess.

I have one other weakness besides numbers and that would be that I am direction illiterate. Yeah, that will be another blog. Just give me right or left, none of this north or south, east or west. Just saying.

Got a surprise text from Brandon this morning, they are having their Chinese New Year right now. He said that the fireworks had been going off all day long. I told him at first I thought he was in a war zone or something. Him and his dad Skyped the other day and talked for over 3 hours, they both told me it was a good conversation. Sometimes we just need that. I know when Josh was little, staying at mom's he had a special place on her kitchen cabinet that he would sit and just talk to her about his day and such. Him and I would have those special moments also, I loved that time when they just want to talk to you.

Josh is doing good right now. They are working 10 hour days and last week he put in 60 hours. Tonight when he came home he said he was worn slick. He really likes this job but 6 ten hour days can make an old man out of you fast, but of course he is only 25. Now if this 56 year old fat little lady tried that they would have to put me in traction. Nope, couldn't handle it.

Terry is watching basketball, guess we are gearing up for the Big 12, even though his team MU will be in the SEC instead. He just told me Missouri and Texas A & M left the conference. Guess Nebraska and Colorado left a couple years ago. Bless his heart, he tries so hard to educate me on sports. I like basketball and baseball though and understand those games, just not so much on football. Of course I don't remember all the key players on the teams unless I think they are cute. Billy Butler of the Royals, I like him even though he is the designated hitter. Ole' Country Breakfast. I have yet to figure out why they call him that but I do know that him and his wife do some awesome charity work in and around KC. Good people.

Been doing laundry all day and getting ready to finish. Going to get off here and finish up supper dishes and relax for the evening. As always I hope I can stay up for SNL aka Saturday Night Live. They crack me up!!!

Stay Classy

That Red Dirt Road!!!

YOU

You may not think that the world needs you, but it does,
For you are unique like no one that has ever been before or will come after,
No one can speak with your voice, say your piece, smile your smile or shine your light,
No one can take your place, for it's yours alone to fill,
If you are not there to shine your light , who knows how many travelers will lose their way as they try to pass by your empty place in the darkness.
So, YOU go out and shine and let the world know the difference you make!

Growing up in a small community brought many an awesome person in my life and this inspirational piece came from an icon of my childhood. Ruby Neuenschwander. I knew Ruby and her husband Amos very well. They always had a smile on their face and a kind word every time I saw them. They were strong supporters of my dad when he was in the nominated County office during his life. Growing up, I admired their two daughters Cindy and Sara Gay. They were older than me and I thought they were the coolest. So beautiful, talented and smart. They were much older than I so I never could dub them as friends but since we have graduated and grown up I can truly say, Cindy is a dear friend of mine.

Ruby has recently passed away as so many from my childhood have done. Cindy posted this today on FaceBook. As they are going through the memorbilia in their parents house, she said her mom carried this piece of paper in her wallet. This did not surprise me at all. It sounds so much like Ruby.

I am closing this piece off with a picture of my Great Great Niece. Taylor is in 2nd Grade and is reading to Otis. One of his job responsibilities in the classroom is to listen to the children read....Taylor's mama Christal said that Taylor LOVES Otis. How cool is that for the school to have a reading buddy like that. Such an awesome incentive to get children to read.

Just One Act Of Kindness

As I was coming down here Monday, I realized I needed something to drink. Route 44 Diet Limeaid. I stopped at the Sonic in Clinton and went through the drive-thru. As I was pulling up to the speaker I remembered it was half price drinks during this time of day. I dug through my purse and found no cash at all. I was like great, I went ahead and ordered and she told me my total was going to be $1.24. There was a couple of cars ahead of me and as I kept thinking how I didn't want to use my debit card for a dollar, I remembered something that they say on this Christian radio station that I listen to. Do an act of kindness and pay for the order of the person that is behind you. I did some serious thinking but decided to trust the Lord on this one. When I pulled up to the window I told the cashier I wanted to pay the next person's order. She did not bat an eye, took my card and closed the window. I kept looking at the lady in my rear view window and said a prayer for her. When the cashier gave me back my card she said the ticket for the other order was $.97. I thanked the lady and drove on.

As I was pulling out of the parking lot I thought about all the times I have stopped somewhere to get a drink, something to eat, and not have any money but I wanted or needed something to eat. I have dug in my purse, checked under the car seat, in the console, in the cup holders in my coat pockets. Whatever it took to come up with just a dollar. I don't know if this lady had that moment or not but it makes you feel good when you just do a little act of kindness to someone you don't even know and you will never know if it made an impact on that woman's life or not.

Society has paid me acts of kindness a time or two when I least expected it. It may not have taken the burden off my problems at that moment but it did take a corner off that chunk that made it an easier load to carry. Do unto others as you would have them do unto you.

It's all how you read it!!!

"Life is a storybook, what chapter are you in?" is a quote out of my senior yearbook that a beloved teacher wrote. Mr. Jack Sewell is no longer with us but throughout my journey's in life, I would remember this quote. No matter if it was a rough time or a good time in my life, I would thnk, "Well, starting another chapter." This is so true. I used this quote on a friend of mine the other day. She told me she had never thought about it like that.

Today I was talking to a co-worker that is getting ready to retire at the end of the month. She is going into another chapter in her life. The chapter we all will enter one of these days. I can't wait to start writing about that chapter. It should be interesting. Let's hope anyway.

Today three of us walked over to thelibrary. I got me three books but nothing to read. One was a craft book and two plant books. May order one of them on Amazon. It was really good. The name of it is, "Growing Food In Small Gardens". Heck what am I talking about, I loved the other one too. "Fruit and Vegetables in Pots". I will check my favorite shopping website out and see what the cost for these two books are. One thing I like about Amazon is you can buy the books used and they are not bad looking books at all.

Getting off here. Have a good day everyone and talk to you tomrrow.

Tonight's the night

When I sit and reflect upon my day, I am like Wow, I did that and talked to those people. I wish sometimes that we could be left alone to do what we need to do in our own timeframe. Sometimes you don't make an impact last year when you were with your client and then all of a sudden, out of the blue, you recieve a phone call from them. They cannot afford their meds because their insurance will not cover it and co pay is over $500. I am working to help this person out and I will do what I can do to help them.

Today was an interesting day. I spent all day in Joplin MO. It is such a sad town, trying to rebuild after the horrific tornado. I am not sure they will ever get back everything they lost. You drive down the street and along the sidewalks are concrete steps leading up to empty lots that use to have homes on them and trees. The next block from this empty space are new homes going up. Then among the new homes you will see a vacant 3 story older home, with the windows still blown out from the storm. Everytime I see the town I think of this song. Not sure why, maybe it's because it is one of my favorites or maybe just because...

My audience is awaiting me so I guess I will get off of here. It was an emotional day for me. Not sure if it is because of lack of a good nights sleep, the material I was dealing with today or just because I sometimes feel emotionally drained. I'm really okay. Just one of those days. Talk to you tomorrow.

That's the Way I feel About it.

There were several commercials last night that were awesome and funny. Several stupid and even more that you wonder why they wasted the millions of dollars it took to have them air during the Super Bowl. The one Ad that hit it home for lots was Paul Harvey's, "So God Made A Farmer".

Both my grandparents were farmers. It was the way of survival in their day. I knever knew Grandpa Thompson (my dad's dad) but I did know Grandpa Woods (mom's dad). By the time I came around he had retired from farming, but it never left his soul. His gardens were huge and well maintained with nothing but manual tools. No gas powered tillers but a one tine push plow, no seeders but his hands. You respected Grandpa's gardens too as a child. You didn't go in them and play in the nice fine soil he had so carefully worked with his hands. You didn't walk on the plants accidently. You stood by the garden gate and waited for him and mom to harvest the vegetables and you sat on the porch with them, listening to their conversations while you helped with podding the peas or snapping the beans. I learned the value and respect of growing food from the land.

My dad raised livestock when I was growing up. We had lots of chickens at one time. Like three huge chicken coops full of the birds. All I remember of those days were to stay away from roosters. Those dudes were mean and would flog you. Didn't like those days but then he got into raising sheep. Different story there. They were gentle animals but if they have their babies in the wintertime, you stayed out there with the mama and if she rejected the baby you brought them into the house, raised them in the bathtub and kept it warms until they were stable enough to go back out their with the others. I bottle fed many a baby lamb. I remember the hard work and late nights him and mom both would have out in the barn.

For those narrow minded people that say farmers don't work but just sit around the coffee shop or the elvator doing nothing. That nothing is them watching the markets or talking to other farmers either about when to sell the grain or cattle or hogs or whatever they have decided to raise for us do nothings to eat, or when to wait the market out a little longer.

I worked in a tax office for 5 years and became aquainted with many farmers. The paper work and books that they have to kee makes a corporation's form look like a 1040EZ. I also worked in a propane company also that sold diesel to farmers. Farmers don't have a 8-5 job. They work long hard hours until the crops are planted or harvested. The company would deliver disel at 1am to the field if needed.

I grew up around farmers, farming community and farm land. My son did the same and has the love and respect of God and the farms as I do. For those narrow minded individuals that think farmers have it made, think twice. You are the one that have it made because of the farmer.

Leon Sandcastle

After a short delay we are back on with the Super Bowl commercials. I wait all year for this and was so excited for today. Missed a few of my commercials and go in on the end of Beyonce. Man she is beautiful. I loved the part of the show that I did see. I don't know why so many people are bad mouthing her.

I'm not much of a football fan but am enjoying watching. 49ers are coming back up after the power outage though. I like seeing that. I like that kid Colton Kaoebach or however you spell his name. They did a piece on him before the game, he's a good kid that comes from a good family. He's adopted, really a good story on him. The social work comes out in me on a good humanity story.

Some pretty good commercials were on tonight. Always, always, always love the Budweiser Clydesdale's. I saw them one year at the MO State Fair. They are so beautiful and majestic. I can't stand horses but I loved these beasts.

Don't know who is going to win and don't really care. I hold my allegiance to the MO teams, Chiefs and Royals. Neither one of them are that good but hey, ya gotta cheer for them.

Getting off of here. Talk to you tomorrow.

All in a Day.

Woke up this morning to a wonderful message on my phone. A text from my cousin in Washington State. It made me feel warm and smile when I read it. Also talked to a couple of friends on the phone that made me feel good. One told me I sounded better than I have all week. (I've had a tough week, emotionally).

We also went and saw Silver Linings Playbook. Excellent movie and is one of my top favorites. Deserves every award they toss their direction. Robert De Niro is hilarious and Bradley Cooper is great along with Jennifer Lawrence. Loved, loved, loved it. Went out to eat at Outback before we went to the movie. Everything was so good, the day was beautiful and we got to spend some quality time with each other.

Sometimes just a little thing can make or break your day. Whether it is a smile, a touch, a look, a text, a phone call...no matter it can plan your day. Mine was good today. Still have the hidden anxiety that bubbles up a few times but everything is okay.

A Little Of This, A Little Of That.

Well, the weekend has started. Not sure what it is going withhold for us. Tomorrow Terry and I are going to use one of our gift certificates that we got for Christmas and go out to eat. May mess around a little bit and shop. Not sure, we usually just play by ear.

Super Bowl Sunday, I know where Terry is going to be but I have other engagements to do on Sunday and am going to miss the game. A little bummed because I love the commercials and that is the only reason I watch the Super Bowl. Terry says he thinks its Beyonce that is going to sing at half time. I hadn't heard.

Got a couple more seed catalogs this week waiting for me to cruise through. I signed up for a webinar on Seed Savers Exchange website one day last week. They archived the webinar and since I wasn't able to watch it the other night I plan to watch it this weekend. It is about starting your own seed collection. I do some of that anyway on my flowers and am planning on doing more. I am going to be ordering this weekend and get some of my garden plants started. I can't wait to retire and be able to do more.

Glad I am home and am going to enjoy the weekend with my family. Another position has opened up that I am going to try for. I am not sure when I will get the call for the interview but am sure it will be soon. We'll see, it should be a very interesting position. I'll let you guys know when I find more out about it.

Heading off of here. I'm tired and I'm going to go to bed. Talk to you later.

Be the Change

Wow, day 2 of cold and fridgid weather. Snowed all day but didn't amount to anything but slick streets when the sun went down. It is suppose to get to a whopping 9* tonight. Got a funny feeling it is going to be cold in the mroning to warm the ole car up. Sure do wish I had a garage but oh well. Being with Terry has spoiled me. I've never had a garage until I went to live with him.

Our co-worker from the Southeastern section of the State came over for a meeting on some updates we have within the State. TheState Public Health Lab has changed there testing program to a very sensitive test that will be able to pick up the antibodies os someone that was exposed to HIV 15 days later. That is better than the testing they did before, It was 30 day timeframe then. I'm really excited about this. We will be able to catch so many infections that we haven't been able to before. This is all good.

Well, I'm going to get off of here. Talk to you tomorrow.

Stress

It is cold. Nothing else needs to be said about today and tonight. Yesterday was 75 and tonight is 20. We had snow off and on all day. This morning I put a pot of ham and beans on and the house smelled so good when I opened up the door. Comfort food. I also sauteed fresh spinach in olive oil and garlic, sprinkling balsmic vinegar over it when it was done. Goodness nothing warms you up like a good meal like that.

I was down into the Ozarks today. Way deep into the hills. Lots of poverty in that area, down around Branson. There were 5 men that has been exposed to HIV, in their 50's. Lots of Meth use and all. I didn't feel threatened though. I think that area down in there is pretty though. We got lots of rain last night and the creeks that have been dry now have running water in them. There was this one creek running along the side of the road I was on with a railroad track not far from it. Some homes were between the creek and the tracks. The bridges these home owners had across the creek was pretty cool. Hope I get an opportunity to go to that area when the area starts greening up with Spring. I bet it is pretty.

Gained a pound this week. Am going to have to figure this out. I need to drink more water, I know that for a fact. Guess I will start with that. I do not want to quit using the dry creamer in my coffee. I know it has calories. I will just have to be better at figuring them out. Grrr. Wish it was as easy to loose as it is to gain. Anyway as fun. Still not bad. Have been doing this for 4 weeks and have lost 5 pounds. I need to quit beating myself up.

Got me an Immersion Blender today at Target. My supervisor gave me a gift certificiate for Christmas and that is what I used it for. Can't wait to try it out. Am thinking I can make smoothies with it too. All my neat kitchen gadgest are at the house in Harrisonville and sometimes I wish I had something down here. Well here I go.

Can't think of much to say. Just can't wait for ths weekend to get over with. Lots of stress is going to happen but hoping that most of my stress will be relieved afterwards. Keep me in your prayers along with Josh. It's tough sometimes being a mom.

Just depends on how you look at it!!!

Sitting at my desk today, working on the computer and all of a sudden I hear a loud "BOOM". Sounded like a cannon went off, making me jump in my chair. I turned around and there were two young men washing the windows. I noticed all morning people walking past the building looking up in the air. We are in a building that is 10 stories and I am on the first floor. They were finishing up washing the windows in the building. It was pretty cool watching them swing on their chairs outside the windows and when they finished up, it started raining. We needed to have them wash the windows a long time ago. I had an opportunity to enjoy the nice clean window for maybe 30 minutes. Oh well, they will wash them again next year.

The rain was beautiful. It lasted all day long, we got rain, thunder, lightening, tornado warning, tornado watches and wind. A little bit of everything. It will be interesting to find out how much we finally got. I hope it lasts for a while but sounds like it is going to turn off cold tonight and we are to get snow tomorrow morning. Crazy, crazy weather in this state I so lovingly call home.

Today when I was going into work I noticed that gas has gone up 10 cents. My friend at work and I were talking about how things have changed throughout the years with prices and all. Everything costs so much now, she was saying she was a single mother 30 years ago and lived off of $400 a month, her rent was $200. I told her I remembered going to the grocery store and getting $20 worth of groceries for three people and living off of that for a week. Tonight I went to the grocery store, picking up just a few things and my total was $60. That was just the staples and enough that will probably last me for a while, but still. It just doesn't seem right the way things are so expensive. Oh well, "It's nothing but a thang" or "It is what it is".

These are two sayings that I have been hearing a lot lately. Basically, there is nothing we can do about it and it is going to happen, no matter what. That is what these two sayings mean to me. Doesn't make the situation any better, just is saying don't worry. A little like the saying I always said growing up. "Que sera, sera. Whatever will be, will be. The futures not ours to see. Que sera, sera. What will be, will be." That was one of my brothers favorite songs. He loved Doris Day. I remember he had a reel to reel tape player and that was one of the albums on tape he had. Funny what we remember and what triggers that memory.

I am tired tonight. I couldn't go to sleep to save my life. Around 1am I think I finally dozed off. Then it was time to wake up. I am going to go to bed early tonight. Just because. Guess I'd better get off of here now. I have to run down around the hills of the Ozarks tomorrow. There is a clan of meth using individuals that have been exposed to HIV and I need to look them up and get them tested. It should be interesting. It always is.

I will talk to you guys tomorrow, take care and be kind to all you come in contact with.

Spring is in the air.

Today made me so ready for Spring. We had 75* weather, even though it was nice it had an erie feeling to it also. Like what Spring feels like when you could expect severe storms. I tried not to think to much into that direction though. At least down here in Springfield I have good protection in the apartment and at home also. Tornadoes scare me, I was in one once when I lived in Indianapolis. Oh well, I lived to tell of it and learned to respect them.

Anyway, took Lamar out once today to check the temp and we went over to the east side of the house where I have cleaned the iris' out. The Easter lilies, aka Jonquils, are coming up. The flower bed was so full of iris' that I wasn't sure where or how many jonquils we had. I will let them bloom and then dig them up and replant them. I want to put my garden on that side of the house. I won't plant a bunch of stuff yet. Mainly, red peppers, tomatoes, corn, spinach, cucumbers and not sure what else. I am going to do the square foot gardening I have been researching out the last couple of years. I loved the huge garden that I had in Garden City. I love growing garden, the veggies are so good. I am also going to start my plants by seeds. I have done it in the past but not seriously, if that makes sense. I get so dang mad when I go to buy my plant starts and they are so expensive. Plus I know where they come from, I am planting organic and heirloom seeds. Thank you my friend Annie Albright for giving me all these links, seed catalogs and such. I'll give you her link again, that is if you want a treat look up her site. Bright Hope Farm

Well, enough is enough. Found out last week that the library here in town has WordPress for tutorials to learn the program. I was so excited and went tonight to learn some things. I was like "Rock On" and then remembered that my computer is on the fritz. I am taking it in tomorrow. Can't wait.

Whelp, getting off of here. Hopefully tomorrow will be more newsworthy than tonight was. Love you guys and have a good one!!!

Do we really know the answers???

Why? I'm not sure of the answer to this question that I ask myself often, seems like a little more during this time of my life. Why are there so many people that are trying to find a need? What is the answer they are looking for and why are they looking for me for the answer? Why am I the type of person that likes to be alone more than around people? Why is it that sometimes it is so easy to speak from my heart and then others it is hard? Why am I in this chapter in my life?

I don't know the answer to these questions any more than I know what to tell a person they need to do to fulfill their lives. I know when I am in a point in my life when I am looking for answers I turn to prayer. I plug in Mandisa Radio on Pandora and listen to the best Christian Music I can find. I love Third Day, Toby Mac, Mandisa, Point of Grace, Amy Grant. Many, many more. Alan Jackson does an awesome job singing the old hymns that we all grew up with.

It seems like sometimes life gets extremely complicated and we cannot figure out the answer and then wham, something happens good and there you are. It's okay if you don't believe the same as another person. We are made the way we are so we can help individuals that another person cannot help.

“In this sad world of ours, sorrow comes to all and it often comes with bitter agony. Perfect relief is not possible, except with time. You cannot now believe that you will ever feel better. But this is not true. You are sure to be happy again. Knowing this, truly believing it, will make you less miserable now. I have had enough experience to make this statement.” – Abraham Lincoln

Good night all.

Don't apologize

A few months ago I went to a silent auction and bid on this journal book that someone hand made from really nice and soft leather. It was the perfect size to keep around at all times to jot thoughts down, using these thoughts to elaborate on in this blog. I was really excited when I won the bid. Last night, or maybe this morning I thought of something I'd like to write about, thinking to myself that I wouldn't forget it and it would make an awesome subject. Where was the pad? Have I ever used the pad? Did I write it down? Can I remember what it was I thought about? The answers are: Who knows, no, no and no. I'm going to find it when I finish this and get it out. I have got to start writing stuff down. I really have some good ideas during the day. Grrr

Oh well. Josh had the stomach flu last night and was up most of the night in the bathroom, needless to say I didn't get a lot of sleep. He is old enough to take care of himself but being the mother I am I would come in and see if there was anything I could do to help. Not help him to puke but help him to make him feel better. Terry has been sick with a cold the last week or so and had to get up early this morning to help the American Legion guys out. They were working the concession stand at an auction in Garden City. Josh was up not feeling that great this morning so I fixed some food today that wasn't greasy or heavy. Plus a sugar free apple crisp. It is all gone now and the dishwasher is going. Josh is feeling better and has gotten out for a little bit and Terry is sitting in the recliner with Lamar watching TV. Same ole night at the homestead but wouldn't have it any other way.

Getting off of here but remember...

I think I posted this song the other day so I apologize but I really like it and was in the mood to listen to them tonight. Really like this group.

Maybe this time.

Woke up at 4am instead of my regular time which is 5:30-6. Couldn't go back to sleep and I am so tired tonight. Can hardly stay awake and then when it is time to go to bed I won't be able to go to sleep. Grrr.

Am thinking about maybe making some terrariums this year. I've done them in the past but I don't know. We'll see, I thought this picture was neat.

I also use to do macrame. I may do some of that this year too. Can't wait to retire and work on all the things I like doing. Of course they say when you retire you won't have time to do all that you want to do. All I gotta say is try me. I think I can do it.

Heading off of here. Going to do something productive maybe. Not sure, am pretty tired and may not get anything done. Watching some cooking shows on Food Network. Love my cooking shows. Talk to you guys later.

Kiss Tomorrow Goodbye

Well, we are suppose to be getting ice tonight and in the morning and then by the afternoon it is suppose to be 45*, so that means most will all be melted by the afternoon. Most of the ice will be in the northern part of Arkansas, they can have it but of course it isn't that far from us!!! Oh well, winter in Missouri but we're pretty dang close to Spring. Yeah. I'm ready for the pretty Spring blooms and greening. I truly love all season's. I may complain but hey, don't we all?

As I am sitting here trying to think of some topic to write about I am drawing a blank. Writing every might is tough. Sitting here in my recliner I am looking over on my coffee table, the books I have on there are my bible, a back edition of "Country Gardens" magazine and a book, "Mom Blogging for Dummies" Then I look over at the kitchen table and I have a poster that is doodle art. It is Americana and I at times, when I walk past there I color on it using the color pencils I have. Then I look at the bookcase in my kitchen and see the cook books, plant books and magazines that I have read and do not want to get rid of. Going into my bedroom I see my notebook stuffed with patterns for my Swedish Weaving with different projects in bags on the floor of my closet waiting to be finished. Then all the stuff on the vanity in my bathroom to make myself pretty and smell good in the mornings. How can say I am bored when I have so many different fun things to do. The same thing goes with when I am in Harrisonville. My house is filled with houseplants that I love, seed catalogs that I am planning on ordering from this weekend , a bicycle in the garage that I can jump on to ride around the neighborhood and a baby grand piano in the basement that I can go down and play on if I want. By no means a concert pianist but I can keep myself entertained and Terry has been known to whistle the tune the rest of the evening of the song that I have been playing.

Again, I ask myself how can I ever say I am bored. I have things that keep me entertained and my husband does not care. He does not care if I cook and then go into the living room to rest a minute on my computer before I go in and load the dishwasher. He then will unload it for me after the dishes are done. I truly am a blessed woman and know that. I have had my fair share to evil people in my life and this is the first time I haven't. I like that.

There is a post I did on my Facebook wall tonight. It goes, "Everything in your life is a reflection of a choice you have made. If you want a different result, make a different choice." No truer words have been spoken in my eyes!!!

Whelp, with that said I am getting off of here. Will talk to you tomorrow.

Seafood 101

Didja guys miss me??? Well, the last few nights have been crazy. Tonight I didn't get home until around 9pm, which is late for me. I am usually kicked back in the recliner, sporting one of my fanciest baggy t shirts and messing on Facebook or this blog by 6pm. Not tonight, I went to a local grocery store, well maybe not local but it was Hy-Vee. They had a cooking class tonight, called Seafood 101. Was it not fun and so very good. In my opinion you can not beat fresh seafood. No matter where you are. Anyway, went with a couple of friends from work and enjoyed myself immensly. What was even better, it was a free class. We are going to be going to more in the future. We had a blast.

Got a phone call from my favorite little lady in the entire world. Miss Madison Huey. I was getting ready to go to a late night home visit and had to cut our conversation off short. :o( She is selling Girl Scout cookies so if anyone wants some let me know, I can stock you up. She'd already hit Grandpa up and then called me to see if I wanted to add a little on that order. LOL. Of course I did. She is having a birthday this next month and I already have her Valentine's bought. Grandpa always gets her the candy that she loves so much. The biggest suckers and candy bar that money can buy. He cracks me up. For her birthday I have another excursion planned and cannot wait to have it with her. Can't tell you guys until after it's over because someone would probably tell her and I want it to be a surprise.

I went for the second interview for the position I had applied for but after visiting with them I realized it wouldn't really be a good fit for me. To much sitting behind a desk and number crunching. I was hoping it would be more Health Educator position. I love doing that part of my job but am going to just stay where I am and do what I like doing. For now until something else comes up that I would be interested in. Doesn't hurt to keep all options open.

Weighed in yesterday and lost another pound. Lied to everyone, it isn't 7 pounds I have lost, it is 6. I know you don't really care but I am going to brag my little heart out with every ounce I losse. Last night I made spaghetti and meatballs with whole wheat past, turkey meatballs and ragu. The meatballs had a little to be desired, they were the frozen ones, but they weren't that bad. I do think next time I will just make homemade ones. Anything homemade is better anyway.

Talk to you guys later. Who knows what tomorrow will bring. It's pretty tough some days but I am trying to look at the good in the day, not the bad that has happened. Lots of good happened.

Free Falling

Well, made it through yet another day. Weather was in the 60's yesterday and today it has turned cold and is suppose to be like 6* tonight. Yep, that's Missouri for you. Oh well, can't think of much anywhere else I'd want to live at for right now.

Got on the scales and am 7 pounds lighter but we will find out for sure when I go to my official weigh in. Probably won't be Wednesday, maybe Tuesday night though. I keep on trying though. About 13 more pounds and a miniture celebration is in store. I just wish it was as easy to lose as it is to gain. Or at least as much fun!!!

Been listening to Steve Winwood and John Mayer today. Not together. I'd get into a Steve Winwood phase and then switch over to a John Mayer one. Different moods I guess. Did some sewing today on my Swedish Weaving. I'd like to get focused on it and finish up a bunch of them. Maybe sell them but who knows.

Terry said he talked to our neighbor. He is a retired principal at the school here in town, maybe in his 80's. A few months ago they took his wife away in an ambulance. He told Terry she is in the nursing home. Sad. Bet its quiet for him over there. You'd hear them bickering to each other but it was okay. Nothing bad, their son would always come around too. Their son owns the furniture store here in town. The old man is always complaining but always speaks. The night they were taking his wife to the hospital he was complaining to the firemen about the fire hydrant that they hadn't painted yet. Pointing over to it and asking when they thought they'd get to it. The firemen were being very polite to him but I notice nothing has been done yet. LOL. Makes me laugh.

I have tomorrow off because of Martin Luther King's birthday. In my younger days I use to make snide remarks but if it wasn't because of him, so many people would not have gotten the opportunity that they have gotten in life. Look at our President of the United States. Two terms, I know MLK would have been so very proud.

Getting off of here. I'm tired and need to move on. Talk to you tomorrow.

Too Close

Sorry, just wasn't in the mood last night to post anything. Not even that much on Facebook. Sometimes we all just have one of those down times and yesterday seemed to be mine. I'm pretty much back today though. 60* puts anyone in a good mood. That and some new seed catalogs. I'm going to be planting some stuff this year, if nothing else it will help us save on groceries and so much better for you. I'm going organic and non GMO. Got a couple really good catalogs today and yesterday. One is Seed Savers and I can't remember the other one, it is the car because I was reading it while I was waiting in the car for Josh. Long story and we aren't getting into it so there! :o)

Got to talk to a good friend this afternoon too. Haven't talked to her for a while. No reason, just haven't called her. Anyway we are going to take a class at a botanical garden here close by called Powell Gardens. Make a sculptured planter. It looks and sounds fun. A little expensive but oh well. If I could learn how to make my own planters I wouldn't have to buy any more. I'm all for it. I'm looking forward to it. Let me give you the link to the website in case you live close and would like to take the class also. Sculptured Head Planter It's on February the 17th and I would love to see you guys there. It would be a blast. Come on if'n ya ain't skeered.

Talk to you guys later. Been Swedish Weaving and going to go back and do more. Need to get rid of some of this nervous energy I've aquired.

I like American Idol

Had Debbie and Toyka over tonight and I fixed supper for them. It was so good. We had a good time. Laughed and just had good fellowhip. Sent home leftovers so they can eat them this weekend. Next week we are planning on going to Hy-Vee (a grocery store in this area) and take a free class on how to with seafood recipes. It should be fun and Debbie and I have been talking Toyka into it. She'll do it. She doesn't have anything else to do and she does have fun when we get together.

Not much happened today and not much in my thoughts to write about, of course cannot wait to go home tomorrow. It is a four day weekend for me. Love it, love it, love it. I'm heading off of here and hopefully will have more to say tomorrow night.

About the same.

Wow, today was interesting, to say the least. First thing this morning my supervisor called to let me know one of our co-workers died. Charlene was young, I am not sure but either late 40's, early 50's. I could be wrong, it is so hard to tell a person's age anymore. Than I found ourt a buddy of mine from Garden City passed away. He attended the church Josh and I started going to when I moved back up to GC. He had one of the prettiest tenor voices you ever heard and when he would sing "How Great Thou Art" it was beautiful. RIP Carl and Charlene, you will be missed.

Weighed tonight and didn't loose any weight but praise God I didn't gain either. I am figuring that my body was holding back all I ate at the funeral dinner a week ago and my husband had grilled pork steak, buttered corn waiting on me when I got home Friday. Dang it was good but really thinking I probably need a leaner cut of meat to be gnawing on. LOL

Tomorrow I will have my work wrapped up. We have the end of the year (2012) to finish so I'm feeling real good about that. Of course Friday is the deadline. Oh well, gotta roll with the flow.

I'm going to head off of here. I am tired and need to straighten up the apartment some. I am having a couple of friends from work over for supper and should at least do the dishes. LOL. It isn't that bad but do need to pick up stuff. May talk tomorrow, may not.

Brrr

Well, all I can say is brrr, I'm cold. Cannot get warm tonioght. Hope I am not coming down with something but I don't think so. I think it is just cold. Temperature was like 29* today. Brrr.

Everyone is always talking about Modern Family, a sitcom on TV. Well, I have never really watched it so I am making myself watch it tonight and tomorrow will talk to my co workers about it, to get up to speed.

Walked a mile tonight with a exercise video I bought a while back. Leslie Sansone "Walk at home". I just did the 1 mile for right now. Will bump it up and probably will only do it down here in Springfield, riding my bike and crunches on my exercise ball in Harrisonville. Of course my talk is always big, my follow through is what needs help.

Not much to write about tonight. Some nights are like that. Going to work a little on my Swedish Weaving. Later.

Live, Love and Keep Your Hat On.

Sitting here with a remote on each side, Iphone close by as well. Just finished up a supper of the homemade roasted tomato/basil soup that I made on Saturday, baked a sweet potato and had that, ate a hard boiled egg, part of a big dill pickle and pineapple greek yogurt... yep that was supper. Was it good, I thought so. Was it healthy, yes it was.

I am getting ready to watch my Monday night lineup of shows that I love to watch every Monday night. Will probably watch it and instant message my friend in Kansas City as we laugh and watch Mike and Molly together. Big Bang Theory is on tonight too, which is another show we love to watch together.

Today I was looking at seed catalogs and getting into the mood for planting season, just around the corner. Reading up on GMO and organic seeds and thinking about going that direction. Also looking at fruit trees, wanting to plant a Granny Smith apple tree and a freestone Peach tree and also a pear tree for canning and preserving fruit for the season. Thinking about not only the healthy values but also saving on the grocery bill. Will keep adding more and more to our landscape to where a garden is what we will have. Terry doesn't know to much about growing and gardening but I do and I love it. Herbs, flowers, vegetables, fruits. We have the area that can be used. It will help both of us out.

As I set here at my computer in Springfield and we have a house in Harrisonville writing about the things I have done today, I realize how lucky I am, not to meantion my family that I have and love. I also have friends that I am very close to and could call any of them at any time and they would help me out if they can.

So when you start feeling sorry for yourself and think no one loves you take a look at the big picture. Do you have a roof over your head, do you have heat, do you have food in your stomach, do you love something or someone??? Then you are a very lucky person too.

Before I head off of here, one more thing. Did you know you can have laying hens to lay eggs without roosters? Roosters are to fertilize the eggs if you want chicks but you don't need a rooster for the hens to lay eggs. Was telling Patsey that yesterday and she didn't know that and everytime I bring it up many people don't. I wish I could have about 5 old laying hens to have fresh eggs but living in town, I am sure Harrisonville wouldn't get off on it.

Good Night people.

Ch-ch-changes!!!

Today's preparation for lunch was a little hard. I am tired of cooking the same thing all the time. Guess I need to venture out and maybe get some different cookbooks, find recipes online that I hear about on those cooking shows, buy different stuff at the store. Well, I had boneless, skinless chicken breasts laid out. I thought, hmmm I will saute in butter with mushrooms and chunks of the chicken. Then decided to season with garlic powder, pepper and some greek seasoning that I have. Then I poured a can of cream of mushroom soup over it mixed with half a can of chicken broth to simmer for a while. Needed some thickening so I used corn starch and more chicken broth to make a rogue. Then got a partial package of egg noodles that I cooked up and put in the mixture. Well, it tasted just like my beef and noodles that I make but with chicken. It was good but still not what I was looking for. Dang it.

When I was thinking about this recipe ordeal I thought to myself, this is a lot like our lives. We get to a point in our life that we want something different and we start doing little things, but only with things that we are familiar with. We make what we think are changes but when it is all over with it is the same as what we already had. Are we afraid to reach out and make the change, or do we not know how to make the changes? Why don't we just reach out and jump off that cliff to make the change that we want?

It's because change is scary. What if we don't like it? What if we get sick or hurt? What if no one will like you after you make the change? Then we will have changed and lonely at the same time. These are questions that come into our minds when we make the quest to change something.

I have broke away from my comfort zone a few times lately. My present hair color is a prime example of stepping out of my comfort zone. It's okay to do this. Nothing is going to happen to you and from one of my favortie quotes, "Those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind." Step out of your comfort zone once in awhile, do something ballsy, enjoy life because we take it a little to serious at times.

I am going to start doing some different foods and recipes for our meals. It's okay, I just need to stretch out out of my comfort zone.

Talk to you guys tomorrow, I will be in Springfield. Take care.

Love me some Santana

Okay, weird weather. Yesterday it was 61* and today it has been snowing, sleeting and we are to be getting at least 2 inches. Terry has been in Garden City all day at the American Legion preparing for the ham and bean supper they are having. I ended up baking 4 pans of cornbread. I'm thinking they probably are going to have enough but Terry wanted to make sure. I worry when the roads are said to be bad and he probably won't be coming home until around 8. Josh tells me to quit worrying, he's a big boy but you know how it is.

I did run to the grocery store today. We had nothing healthy so I bought fresh fruits and vegetables. I made a kick ass tomato soup today though. Might need to tweek it a little more but not sure. Anyway, here is what I did:

  • 2 pounds of roma tomatoes
  • About 3 big cloves of garlic
  • 1 medium onion
  • red bell pepper
  • granny smith apple

  • Cut everything up and put on a pan. Drizzle oil and put lots of basil over the vegatables. I didn't do anything with the apple's and roasted all in a 350* oven until done. Then put in my food processor, adding chicken broth in while pureeing the heck out of it. Man, it was a good hearty soup and skinny friendly.

Well, don't really know anything tonight. Josh and I are just sitting here watching free movies on Directv, I think it is Starz and Cinemax. Anyway, can't wait for Terry to get home. Will talk to you guys tomorrow and have a good evening.

    The Bug

It was a good day today. Not sure if it was because I didn't have to show up for work and had my interview or if it was because it was in the mid 60's and a beautiful day. A bit windy but nice.

Interview went good, won't know anything for a while though. Really, really like the Hepatitis Program Manager. She said she is to be over Perinatal Hep B and Adult Hep C program. Sounded pretty interesting but as I said, we'll see.

As I was driving today the radio seemed to be playing some awesome music. Sometimes I think I may be in the car to much but then again I love my music and it is fun to listen to the music. It was a good day all around.

    More opportunities

I'm back. Yesterday evening when I finally got home in Springfield I didn't feel up to posting or even messing around on Facebook. Not sure why except I had a full day, went to Grandma's funeral and stayed around visiting with the family. Then when I got down here I ran to the mall to check out some of the end of the season sales. Got me a pretty cute top and a necklace with matching earrings for $20 at C.J. Banks which is a really good price. Didn't see anything in Dillards I wanted. Just messed around some before coming home.

Weighed yesterday and down 4.4 pounds. Not sure how I did it since I ate Jack Stack BBQ Saturday and yesterday there was food the church ladies made for after the funeral. Homemade potato soup and homemade vegatable beef soup. Seasoned crackers home made also. Then ham and turkey sandwiches and salads to die for. Jello and lettuce but the desserts is what I tried to stay away from but no. I went straight for a piece of chocolate sheet cake. Can I saw yummy, yum, yum. Yes I can. It was all so good.

With that all said I am going to have to be really careful this week. I was going to exercise tonight but needed to get ready for tomorrow when I go home. Plus I have to be in Jefferson City at 12:30 tomorrow. Takes a couple of hours from Springfield to get there but at least it is suppose to be good weather. Am going to interview for a different position that they have opened up. It is with Hepatitis C and would be working with adhoc groups, community organizations and get the program up from the bottom floor. Hope I do good but if not oh well. We'll see. I will let you guys know how it went tomorrow.

Heading out. Getting tired and will talk tomorrow night. Take care all and remember, love. Use to sing this song on the school bus when we were either coming or going to basketball games. We use to sing songs alot of times before and after games. Usually after we were to tired and our throats hurt from cheering our boys on.

    One of these days

I am not sure if it is because we are getting warmer temps after a short stint of freezing temps, or that seed catalogs are starting to filter in or if I can't wait to retire and work in my flowers, yard, do a big garden and anything else I can think of to undertake but I so am wanting to get outside and start digging in the soil.

I saw a friend tonight at Margaret's family night that I hadn't seen in close to 27 years, maybe 26. She was a good, good friend of my ex-husband and his sister, Aunt Mary. Her and Mark are good people. I know that Mark got hurt working construction and when this happened to took the opportunity to go to college and learn a trade. He went and got a horticulture degree from SMS or MSU in Springfield MO. After graduating he started teaching at State Fair Community College in Sedalia as Horticulture instructor. Annie said that he is going to retire this May but planning on becoming the head of the Floriculture building at the State Fair. How cool is that but that isn't the end of the cool story of these two people.

A few years ago their son has in a bad 4-wheeler accident and Annie said she needed to stay at home instead of work out of the home. They live on a small hobby farm outside of Sedalia MO and opened up a farm called Bright Hope Farm. They have some awesome stuff going on there but don't let me tell you, go to their website Bright Hope Farm and see for yourself.

She was also telling me they are a host family for an organization that is called Worldwide Opportunities of Organic Farms called WWOOF. Another website I invite you to go check out. Totally awesome. Just click on WWOOF. Once you are at that site you can look up the ones in USA and then see the ones in your area. I was really interested and loved looking at it. Yes, now I am ate up and cannot wait to go out and see Mark and Annie's place. Oh and also Annie has her farm on Facebook and if you are a Facebook addict like myself just go to her page at Bright Hope Farm and "like" it. She said there is another one on there but her's is located in Hughesville MO.

I'm heading outta her. I'm all pumped and gotta look up some other stuff within the field I love. Growing stuff. :o) Later.
